About
Welcome to the design portfolio site KYDO creative.
I am currently located in Toronto, Ontario in Canada and focus mainly on print design and hand-crafted arts.
Although my main area of focus is print design, I do occasionally cross the line over to web design and have worked on a number of sites over the years.
Where it all began
I suppose my art career started for me while I was in high school. I was involved in every art class I could get into and was part of art shows showcasing student’s work. I took on a field placement job at our local art museum and took a greater interest in hand-crafted arts, which still remains with me to this day. I’m sure if I were to return to my old high school I would probably find my Jackson Pollack inspired painting hanging in the library as the school had purchased this painting from me after seeing it displayed at one of the art shows.
After high school, I took my art teacher’s advice and enrolled and was accepted into Sheridan College for the Illustration program. To be honest, I only stayed in the program for a year because I realized that Illustration was not what I had a passion for. In the back of my head I think I always knew I wanted to try graphic design, so I set out to find a program in the Toronto area that would allow me to build on this.
I attended Seneca College for a program called Digital Media Technical Production, which was formerly Computer Graphics. As I became more involved with the program, I realized that this was not the type of computer graphics program I was looking for but decided to stick it out for the two years that the program ran. After graduating with my Diploma, I applied again to the three year Graphic Design program at Seneca where I was accepted and graduated as an honour student.
During the last semester at Seneca, we were given the opportunity to apply for an intern student placement with varying companies. I took up the opportunity to work in a marketing agency and was hired during my placement and stayed there until recently. I am currently working at a downtown Toronto agency and so far am enjoying the change.
I love everything about design. I love the learning process, looking at other designers work, playing with type and colours and coming up with something that you can feel good about and make people say “that is cool”. I prefer clean, white space, grid-like, linear designs because of the visual organization (I’m a very organized person). I admire designer’s who create differently than I do because it allows me to see things in a way I wouldn’t normally see it. So thanks.
Hand Crafts
I’ve always been a hands-on person. I guess you could say I have a bit of an “idle hands” situation where I always need to be doing something and I’ve found the best way to satiate this need is through crafts.
I do a number of crafts such as oil painting, knitting, crochet and book binding to name a few. I have a tendency to go through phases focusing on one to three of these crafts at any one time.
If you have any questions or just want to make a comment or hire me for a freelance job, send me an email. I’d love to hear from you and am very interested in what you have to say.
